United Way Helps Americans Achieve Financial Stability
As many as one-third of working Americans do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. Wages have not kept pace with the rising cost of housing, healthcare, and education and currently 40 million Americans are working in low-paying jobs without basic health and retirement benefits. For families walking a financial tightrope, unable to save for college, a home, or retirement, United Way is here to help.
In 2008, United Way initiated an ambitious 10-year plan to cut in half the number of lower-income families who are financially unstable. With your help, we believe that by the end of 2018 we can help 1.9 million working families get on the road to economic independence.
There are a growing number of people in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. United Way agencies provide financial assistance and education to help families through crisis situations and to develop plans for moving forward. In the 2016-17 fiscal year, our United Way Community Partners served 22,124 people with financial stability needs.
