Shawnna Gerding, currently the Executive Director of the Sikeston/Bootheel Area United Way, will be retiring from her position at the end of September. Shawnna’s tenure with United Way began in January 2016 following her retirement from Noranda Aluminum. Shawnna would like to thank everyone for their support while at United Way. “United Way is a wonderful organization and I have enjoyed the work and educating people in the community about United Way and how money raised in the local community stays in the local community. I will miss working with the people I have met through my job, some of whom have become close personal friends and I will work hard to keep in touch with them as often as I can.” Shawnna’s favorite quote about fundraising: “Success in fundraising is more than just asking for money – it’s about treating people with respect and sensitivity to their personal circumstances” (author unknown). Best Wishes to Shawnna on her retirement and eventual move to Murray, Kentucky. (Attach photo)
Shawnna states she is leaving United Way in good hands with her replacement, Sikeston resident and business owner Lisa Angle. Lisa will fill the Executive Director role effective October 1, 2018. Lisa brings a lot of good experience to the position including operating her own business. She has worked with the Sikeston Public Schools as a Teacher Assistant/Parent Liaison and has been actively involved with some of the agencies that United Way helps to fund locally – the YMCA, the Kenny Rogers Childrens’ Center, and the Girl Scouts. Lisa looks forward to initiating some new fundraising events and also recruiting new donors. Welcome to United Way, Lisa, and we look forward to working with you!
