The Sikeston/Bootheel Area United Way officially launched its 2018-2019 fundraising campaign on Friday, September 28, 2018, with a goal of $85,000. The amount is the same as the 2018 target of $85,000. “We didn’t quite make our goal last year,” Executive Director Shawnna Gerding explained during the kickoff meeting. “Our agencies count on what we are hoping to give them which is earned during the campaign. We have to work hard for it, but the community always comes through for us and is responsive when they see a need. Our board feels the $85,000 is achievable, so we are going to go for it.”
The donations received by the Sikeston/Bootheel Area United Way are distributed to 19 community partner agencies that work together to improve the core issues of education, income, and health in Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi, Stoddard, and Butler counties. If everyone gives as they are able, together we can help a student receive a quality education that leads to a stable job, help hard-working families find stability, and help people of all ages adopt healthier lifestyles.
